Psalm 127:3, Proverbs 22:6

We dedicate children as a sign that we recognize the blessing and gift that our children are and as such, we dedicate them back to the Lord. Child dedication is a commitment you make before God, your church, and your family, that you will bring up your child in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

In the Bible, Hannah did this with Samuel (1 Samuel 1) and Mary did this with Jesus (Luke 2). While we can’t make a personal decision for Christ on our child’s behalf, we can dedicate ourselves and our homes to honouring God and making Jesus the centre of everything so when they are old enough to understand and choose for themselves, they most naturally choose to follow Christ.

Child dedication is important because it is a public declaration of your intent to raise your child to know Christ and gives the church family the opportunity to commit to supporting you as you do this.
